Patients of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

    Clinical Features:

    The patient had normal blood pressure, no diabetes, mild anaemia, with a pulse of 86 beats/minute and blood pressure of 110/70 mmHg. He possessed average build and was weak overall. Systemic examination revealed muscle of both the upper limbs was normal, although mobility was restricted, muscles of lower limb had lower strength due to atrophy. There was loss of ability to walk. Other systemic findings were typical. Serum creatinine kinase was found to be 2348 U/L. Complete blood count, Random blood sugar, chest X-ray, ECG, serum creatinine, etc. were typical. The patient was highly cooperative and had normal intelligence.

    treatement and management:

    The administration of anesthesia and operation went as expected, with postoperative treatment being uneventful.

    Remarks:

    The patient was a male of 26 years who was admitted to Asgar Ali Hospital Ltd. Dhaka with complaints of inability to straighten legs and therefore walk on 5th December, 2017. The patient had been diagnosed as having Duchenne muscular dystrophy since childhood confirming the diagnosis through muscle biopsy, although the patient was unable to submit the report. The patient had four brothers- the eldest of whom died at age 30, while the rest are healthy. This report outlines the details of anesthetic management of the patient prior to surgery.
